GIV3 is a campaign for giving. It is the initiative to encourage Canadians to give 3% of their income (before tax) and to volunteer 3 hours a month to charitable or non-profit organizations…to make a difference.
This is a nominal amount which will barely affect our financial goals, but it will make an incredible difference collectively. Three percent is not so bad when you consider that many religions suggest a 10% tithing!
The "Donation Calculator" is based on guidance from a survey, conducted by Ipsos Reid (May 2008), among 1,000 Canadian adults. The Calculator reflects the donation levels which the majority of Canadians feel are fair and reasonable. This Calculator is specifically based on the suggested levels of fellow Canadians.
For those with higher incomes, Canadians suggest a slightly higher level than 3%. And for those who are unemployed or retired, the suggested level is less than 3%. Try our "Donation Calculator" to find your suggested level of giving as defined by your fellow Canadians…
There are thousands of registered not-for-profit organizations that require personal time from volunteers to help those in need. Perhaps it is best to save your funds, and to consider giving your time to make a difference.
Your time can help in so many ways, and sometimes it is more valuable than money itself. Please give some of your time.
If you can't give your suggested level, then please consider the highest level which still allows you to make a difference in someone's life. You will feel good knowing you have helped.

Are you surprised by the suggested donation level? Is it because you are like most Canadians, and have never really considered the amount we should be giving? Our survey tells us that most Canadians have no idea. But now that we have heard from Canadians, our donation calculator represents the donation levels based on the opinion of the majority of Canadians' about what is fair and reasonable. These levels are just a few percentage points of our income, leaving almost all of one's income for them self.
Now you know! If you can't give your suggested level, then please consider the highest level which you can. You are earning an above average income, and it is only right to help those in need.
Lower income groups donate 1.7% of their income (more than double the National average), whereas wealthy Canadians give just .5% on average. If higher income earners donated even the National average of .75%, it would make an enormous difference! Ask yourself: “Can I afford to meet that challenge?” Then ask yourself: “Could I do more?”
