Canadians are caring and generous people! But did you know that giving is declining in Canada?
But, while 80+% of Canadians donate to charities, the problem is that over three-quarters say they don’t know how much they should be giving or volunteering. In turn … the average level of giving is 0.72% of income. Wealthier Canadians give even less at just 0.5% of income.
Less than 1 in 4 tax returns claim a charitable tax receipt. This level has been declining over the past 15 years. The median claimed level is $250 per year.
Just 10% of Canadians represent over 60% of all volunteerism.
We need an initiative to encourage more Canadians to be more charitable and reverse the growing Charity Gap. Fortunately, charity is a learned behaviour, and can be improved. Those who have had a charitable mentor, teacher or parent, are more giving.
GIV3 is a movement to encourage more Canadians to be more charitable.
