The proof is in. A study by a University of British Columbia psychology professor, Elizabeth Dunn, shows that money can buy happiness when the money is spent on others. When we help others, it makes us happier than when we spend the money on ourselves.
With MRI technology, scientists can see into our brains as we think. When we help others, emotional parts of the brain light up which are associated with the pleasure centre of our brains. When we are charitable to others, our brain releases endorphines which are the chemicals that give us a warm happy feeling.
In a nutshell, to relieve stress in your day-to-day life, make a commitment to charity because it is healthy and good for you. Make a charitable gift, and then reflect back often to make you feel better. And give again to keep the warm feeling going.
FEEL GREAT GIVING!
